We plan a full weekend to make your trip worthwhile. Many stackers don't compete on Friday (see schedule) but there are other events such as practice with your team, athlete check in and Opening Ceremonies at 5:00. If you want to get the most out of the weekend, arriving on Friday is ideal. Athlete check in is on Friday from 8:00am-4:00pm. This is where athletes get, most importantly, their badge to enter the competition area but also a t-shirt, bag and certificate. If you can't arrive by 4:00 on Friday, you should check in first thing on Saturday morning at 8:00am when athlete check in opens for the day.
Yes! You do not need any kind of credentials to be with your child in the competition area. The only place you can't go is right next to them at the competition table unless they have a special need that might require your presence. An example would be to be there to pick up a dropped cup for a child with a visual impairment or limited mobility. Parents should wait behind the on deck table if they are in the competition area. You will have a better view of your child competing if you go in front of the table, but you have to stay behind the pipe and drape and outside of the area of the competition table.
Definitely! When you register for the AAU Junior Olympic Games Sport Stacking Championships, you can compete in all the events. It is highly recommended to request a relay team even if you are not attending with a group from your area. You will be place on a team with other stackers of a similar age and ability. Even if you've never done doubles, you can learn how to do this event at home. You'll be placed with a partner and have plenty of time to practice when you arrive.
Most stackers will be done by 3:00 on Sunday but some will be done earlier. Everyone has at least one event every day, if you're on a relay team, so make sure you come to the Coliseum Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Our final event, the Stack of Champions, will be the last event. This is a chance to see the fastest stackers of the competition on stage trying to beat their times. Final awards for the overall winners are given at the Stack of Champions. So, we recommend staying until the end of that event!
You have to look for their name under the name of the competition they went to. Click on Registration/Qualifiers and then click on the name of a tournament they attended. You should then see their name listed. If you can't find your registration link using those directions, please email lisaberman@thewssa.com for additional help.
