Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to arrive on Friday?

We plan a full weekend to make your trip worthwhile. Many stackers don't compete on Friday (see schedule) but there are other events  such as practice with your team, athlete check in and Opening Ceremonies at 5:00. If you want to get the most out of the weekend, arriving on Friday is ideal. Athlete check in is on Friday from 8:00am-4:00pm. This is where athletes get, most importantly, their badge to enter the competition area but also a t-shirt, bag and certificate. If you can't arrive by 4:00 on Friday, you should check in first thing on Saturday morning at 8:00am when athlete check in opens for the day.

How do I know who is competing during each event listed in the schedule?

It depends on which events you are registered for. There are also events at the competition that participants qualify for during the prelims so even we don't know who is competing in those events yet. If you are competing, you can know which table to go to by looking at the Table Assignments on the tournament page.

Here's an overview of who competes at each time each day:

Friday
  • 2:30 All Child/Parent Doubles. Must have registered to compete in this event.
  • 3:00 All 35+ stackers for individual events, doubles and relays. NOTE: 28-39M individuals do not compete on Friday.
Saturday
  • 9:00 Prelims-Everyone except 35+
  • 11:00 HTH Relays-All relay teams except 35+
  • 1:00 Relay teams that qualified for finals
  • 1:30 Everyone competes in either Stacking League OR Individual HTH
  • 3:30 Doubles teams that qualified for finals.
  • 4:00 Doubles teams that qualified for Stackout.
Sunday
  • 9:00 All State Challenge Teams (notified on Saturday)
  • 10:00 Stackers who qualified for individual finals in the divisions competing at this time (see schedule)
  • 11:00 Stacking League Teams that competed on Saturday
  • 11:00 Combo Stack (All Stackers)
  • 1:00 Stackers who qualified for individual finals in the divisions competing at this time (see schedule)

Can I be in the competition area with my child?

Yes! You do not need any kind of credentials to be with your child in the competition area. The only place you can't go is right next to them at the competition table unless they have a special need that might require your presence. An example would be to be there to pick up a dropped cup for a child with a visual impairment or limited mobility. Parents should wait behind the on deck table if they are in the competition area. You will have a better view of your child competing if you go in front of the table, but you have to stay behind the pipe and drape and outside of the area of the competition table.

Doubles and Relays weren't part of my qualifying event. Can I still compete in those events at Junior Olympics?

Definitely! When you register for the AAU Junior Olympic Games Sport Stacking Championships, you can compete in all the events. It is highly recommended to request a relay team even if you are not attending with a group from your area. You will be place on a team with other stackers of a similar age and ability. Even if you've never done doubles, you can learn how to do this event at home. You'll be placed with a partner and have plenty of time to practice when you arrive.

What time will the competition end?

Most stackers will be done by 3:00 on Sunday but some will be done earlier. Everyone has at least one event every day, if you're on a relay team, so make sure you come to the Coliseum Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Our final event, the Stack of Champions, will be the last event. This is a chance to see the fastest stackers of the competition on stage trying to beat their times. Final awards for the overall winners are given at the Stack of Champions. So, we recommend staying until the end of that event!

We received a letter of invitation but I can't find my child's name to register him/her. Can you help?

You have to look for their name under the name of the competition they went to. Click on Registration/Qualifiers and then click on the name of a tournament they attended. You should then see their name listed. If you can't find your registration link using those directions, please email lisaberman@thewssa.com for additional help.
